Whether Cochrane has been your home for years or you are new to the area, we have put together a valuable list of community resources to help you settle in quickly.
From utility set up, tax information, pet licensing, parks, schools, and where to locate the Post Office, we have it all.
Cochrane RancheHouse: is a multipurpose centre, which houses Mayor/Council offices, Council Chambers, Town Administration offices, performing arts theatre, and banquet rooms. This is where you can pay bills, submit permits, and find all sorts of valuable Town of Cochrane information. If you haven’t stopped into the Cochrane RancheHouse make sure you take in the picturesque location at 101 RancheHouse Road, just north of Highway 1A and 22 intersection (construction work). Station at Cochrane Crossing: is a town building that is all about CONNECTION. Located at 360 Railway Street, this building offers a Customer Service Desk to pay town bills or access Business Development/Licensing Services. It is also the singular point of service for local transit (COLT) and commuter services. The Cochrane Information Centre, business incubator space, and rentable community board rooms to discuss business programming are also found here.
Utilities can be paid online and include your monthly water, sewage, and waste removal pick up. Cochrane has a tier-based watering cost system, weekly black (garbage) and blue (recycling) bin pick up, as well as green bin (composting) pick up (weekly or biweekly depending on the season).
You can register by going HERE. There is also a My Cochrane Collection APP which tells when your collection day is and can send you reminders.
Taxes can be paid annually or by registering in the monthly TIPP program. More information can be found HERE. Property assessments are mailed out in January with assessment values based on your home’s worth as of July 1st the prior year; tax bills are sent in May, with taxes due June 30 each year.
All cats and dogs under Animal Bylaw 04/2016 must be licensed. To pay for your animal license you can visit the Cochrane RancheHouse, The Station, or use the Town’s eServices Portal HERE, or by calling 403-851-2528 to pay by Visa or Mastercard.

Whether you need to change your address, set up a PO Box, or access new keys, you can find the Cochrane Main Post Office at 185 1st Street East or by calling 403-932-5828. The Rexall drug store also offers postal services and can be found at 1129-320 5th Ave West.
Cochrane has several schools providing public, Catholic, and Francophone education. If you have a child enrolled in the public system (Rocky View School Division) their attending school will be determined by the boundary in which you reside.
Cochrane has approximately three dozen parks with many of these also including playgrounds. There is summer fishing in trout ponds, outdoor skating, 70 kilometres of pathways, numerous sports fields, two golf courses, and the Bow River runs through town.
There are numerous recreation clubs, groups, and organizations to keep you active no matter your age or ability.
The Cochrane & Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care, and the opportunity for pet adoption. It also offers rehabilitation, training, education, and support for all pet owners and animals in their care.

Southland Transportation is Cochrane’s school bus provider. If you are unsure whether or not your child will be bussed to school, you are advised to check out the Rocky View Schools website HERE, for all the required info.
Cochrane has a very unique local-only transit system that runs completely on demand. With no fixed routes, COLT uses technology to provide responsive on-demand service where and when you need it.
Community members can book a ride on COLT online, by phone, or through the free APP.
A single one-way ticket is $2.50, children under 5 ride for free, and more options are available online.

The Eco Centre is a self-sorting facility located at 50 Griffin Industrial Point. Accepting a wide variety of items including batteries, paint, oil waste, e-waste, and polystyrene styrofoam, the Eco Centre provides several programs to help you reduce, reuse, and recycle.

There are several utility providers for internet, phone, cable, electricity, and gas. While some provide package deals/ fixed rate scenarios, we encourage you to do some comparisons to ensure you get the best deal. Below is a list of some companies you may want to consider:

The Cochrane Bottle Depot is your go-to place to take all your empties. The Cochrane Bottle Depot is open Monday through Saturday and you can find them at 205 Railway Street E.
The Town of Cochrane has several options when it comes to private gyms, but it is also home to the SLS Centre.
The community recreation centre offers residents the option to swim, curl, play hockey, soccer, pickleball, as well as numerous other sports and classes to stay healthy and physically active.
With 325,000 square feet of space, SLS is a tremendous facility for all members of the community and surrounding area. Offering daily, monthly, and annual memberships, the centre also offers childcare services for those in need. The SLS Centre is located at 800 Griffin Road East, with more info found HERE.
Cochrane currently has four off-leash parks throughout town totaling six hectares with more planned with future community development.
The off-leash spaces are located at:
Puppy and small dog only area is located south of West Rock Road along Highway 22
All dogs are allowed between Quigley Drive and West Rock Road along Highway 22
All dogs are allowed along the Bow River, between the bridge at the south end of River Avenue and the east end of Griffin Road, opposite Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. Parking available at the south end of River Avenue.
All dogs are allowed under the Bow River Bridge, just west of Highway 22. You can access parking from Griffin Road west of Highway 22 (boat launch).
Our local library provides many valuable resources for free with a Cochrane Public Library card.
Offering way more than just books, the library offers a ton of programming, tool lending, 3-D printing, special events, guest speakers, and more.
Located at 405 Railway Street W, the Cochrane Public Library is open seven days a week and a list of their offerings can be found HERE.
While the Town of Cochrane hopes all residents try to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as they can, they do know dump runs are inevitable. The closest landfills and transfer stations are listed below for you to access.
If you are moving to an area just outside of Cochrane’s boundary, permits, bylaws, and other resource information will be provided to you through the municipal district of Rocky View County.

The Cochrane Farmers’ Market is operated by volunteers from the Cochrane Environmental Action Committee and is proud to be an Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market. Offering weekly markets during summer, as well as special seasonal ones throughout the year, the Cochrane Farmers’ Market has been operating for over 20 years.
